What this means
Our models are open weights under the Apache License 2.0. Our code is under the MIT licence. You can use, modify and ship them, including in commercial products, as long as you follow the licence. What the licences do not give you is our name, logos or artwork.
This page says which licence covers what, and how you can and cannot use the Geocentric names.
What is under which licence
| What | Licence | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Model weights we release as open weights (currently Arc) | Apache License 2.0, unless the release says otherwise | Hugging Face, Ollama |
| Geocentric Code (the terminal coding agent) | MIT | GitHub |
| This website: text, design, artwork, character art, logos | All rights reserved | geocentricai.com |
| The Geocentric names and marks | Not licensed. See below. | |
| Third-party components and training data | Their own licences | See Training Data Transparency |
Future models may be released on different terms. The licence published with each release is the one that applies to it.
What Apache 2.0 lets you do
The full text is at apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0 and is included with each release. In short, it lets you:
- use the model for any purpose, including commercial use;
- modify it, fine-tune it, quantise it, convert it to other formats, and build products on it;
- distribute the original or your changes, in whole or in part;
- rely on a patent licence from Geocentric for any patents we hold that cover the model, as the licence describes (you lose it if you sue anyone claiming the model infringes a patent).
In return, if you distribute the model or a derivative, you must include a copy of the licence, keep our copyright and attribution notices, and state if you changed it. The model comes with no warranty and no liability on our part, as the licence says in its sections 7 and 8.
The licence is the whole of what we grant. It does not make Geocentric responsible for what others do with a model, and it does not give anyone a right to our support, updates or availability.
Names, logos and artwork
The Apache licence does not grant any right to use Geocentric's names, logos or artwork (section 6 of the licence says so). We use Geocentric and Arc as names for our company and models. We have not registered them, and we do not give up whatever rights the law gives us in them.
You may use the names to say truthfully what something is: for example “fine-tuned from Geocentric Arc,” “runs Geocentric Arc,” or a link to our model page or repository, as long as it does not suggest we made, approved or support your product.
Please do not name a modified or derived model, product or company using “Geocentric,” “Arc,” or a name confusingly similar to one of our models or marks, use our wordmark, compact mark, mascot or other artwork, or imply that we endorse, sponsor or are affiliated with you. If you publish a modified model, give it your own name.
If you want to use our name or artwork in a way not covered here, ask first at contact@geocentricai.com.
Third-party components and training data
Our models were trained on public data and we use open-source software. Each of those keeps its own licence. We list the sources of the training data on the Training Data Transparency page. A model's licence covers the weights Geocentric trained; it does not rewrite the licences of the data or code that went into training. Text a model generates may resemble material it saw, as described in our AI and Model Disclosure and copyright notice.
Contributions
If you contribute to one of our open-source repositories, you agree that your contribution is licensed under that repository's licence, and you confirm you have the right to contribute it. We may reject or remove contributions at any time.
Reporting misuse of our name
If you see someone using our name or artwork to suggest they are us, or distributing a modified model as if it came from Geocentric, tell us at contact@geocentricai.com with a link.
